My Work - Day in the Life

'Day in the Life' is a series of digital pieces I created, documenting my day via the screens I see. During lockdown, it seems to me like my whole day, my whole life, is centred around screens, whether that be due to the endless Zoom meetings, or a feeble attempt to pass the time on Netflix. I chose to present this digitally, as it links into the theme of tech, adding that not only is my personal life consumed by screens, but that my work and University life is too.

This series features a cyclical structure, starting with my phone alarm to wake me up, and

ending with me setting tomorrow's alarm. This is an ode to the 'Groundhog Day' impact that lockdown is having on me, and how each day blurs into the next, with no defining factors in any of them. Additionally, I made sure to show that, even when doing normal tasks, such as eating breakfast or going on a run, my life is still centred around a screen. It is almost like they are helping me to escape reality - allowing me to see my friends on FaceTime, and visit another place when watching a film - whilst also trapping me in a completely different way.

The POV from my eyes helps the audience to connect with me, and creates a deeper understanding as to what I see and how my life is consumed by screens. I chose to present this on Instagram, as a 'multiple' as it is a simple and easy way for the viewer to chronologically skip through each scene, almost like a story. Moreover, the use of Instagram again intertwined with the overall theme of technology and screens.
