My Youtube Channel

After countless years of wanting to set up my own Youtube channel, I finally took the plunge and uploaded my first video in February. Whilst I was growing up, Youtube was coming into its prime, with beauty gurus such as 'Zoella', and daily vloggers like Alfie Deyes (formally known as 'PointlessBlog') creating fun and innovative content. It was a phenomenon which is still growing to this day, and I personally haven't stopped watching makeup tutorials and clothing haul videos. Even back when I would watch Tanya Burr's 'Vlogmas' videos, I felt an urge to do it myself, but never had the confidence. Now that I am older, and less conscious about fitting in to societies standards, I simply thought "why not?".

However, my channel is more than just fun for me; it is a creative outlet and a way for me to make art and graphics for something other than University. I used to love art, but since it became less of a hobby and more of my degree/career path, it has transformed into more of a chore. Youtube allowed me to get inspired again and teach myself new, exciting ways to express myself. I create each thumbnail myself, and as each video came out, I learned more and more skills, eventually leading to my deleting all the first thumbnails I made, and replacing them with much more professional looking ones. Additionally, the editing side is another new skill I am learning, and I found it fun to play with different background music, to fit the theme of the video. For example, I filmed a 70's inspired makeup look, and accompanied it with funky, disco music.

Thinking of video ideas each week has been challenging, but I have taken ideas from other channels I love, such as 'Sophia and Cinzia', and spun them to suit my personality and life-style. Moreover, some of my videos include unique, artistic makeup looks, which definitely links into my fine art degree, since they require technical skills and an ability to draw/paint, just on a different canvas.

Overall, this channel has been incredibly positive for me, particularly in getting back my mojo when it comes to creativity. It has allowed me to separate work and hobbies, and delve into something I have wanted to for a while.
